The Teppotsavam (float festival) of Sri Kodandarama Swamy commenced in grand style on Monday at the Sri Ramachandra Pushkarini in Tirupati. The event transformed the temple tank into a shimmering venue of devotion, as the beautifully decorated, electric‑lit float moved around the water, granting darshan to thousands of devotees gathered on the banks.
Morning Snapan Tirumanjanam
The festival began in the morning with the sacred ritual of Snapan Tirumanjanam from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The processional deities of Sri Kodandarama Swamy, Sita, and Lakshmana were ceremonially bathed with milk, curd, honey, sandal paste, and coconut water, symbolizing purification, cooling, and divine nourishment. This aromatic abhishekam marked the spiritual preparation of the deities for the Teppotsavam and set a deeply devotional tone for the rest of the day.
After the ritual bath, the utsava murtis were taken in a short procession to the Ramachandra Pushkarini, where the evening float‑festival awaited.
Grand Teppotsavam in the evening
In the evening, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the Teppotsavam was held with great pomp. The deities were seated on a heavily decorated float illuminated with dazzling electric lights, creating a mesmerizing sight against the dark water. The float, carrying Sri Sita, Rama, and Lakshmana, made five full rounds of the Pushkarini, while devotees lined the tank and offered camphor harati and folded‑hand prayers.
The rhythmic chanting of “Sri Ramachandra” and other devotional songs echoed around the tank, turning the Teppotsavam into a moving, collective worship experience. Many devotees treated each round of the float as a chance to offer personal vows and seek blessings for family, health, and prosperity.
Officials and devotee participation
The event was attended by Deputy EO Smt. Nagaratna, Temple Inspector Sri Suresh, and other TTD and temple officials, who oversaw the conduct of the rituals, crowd management, and security arrangements around the Pushkarini. A large number of devotees participated throughout the evening, with many children and families gathering by the steps of the tank to witness the illuminated float up close.
The presence of senior officials not only ensured the smooth flow of the seva but also highlighted the institutional importance TTD accords to the Sri Kodandarama Teppotsavam within Tirupati’s annual festival calendar.
