Tirumala, April 8, 2026 – The Sri Venkateswara Veda Vijnana Peetham at Dharmagiri, Tirumala has grown into one of India’s most respected centers for Vedic, Agama, Smartha, and Divya Prabandha education. TTD continues to play a leading role in protecting, propagating, and promoting Vedic traditions, which remain central to Hindu Sanatana Dharma.

Historical Roots

The institution began in February 1884 under Mahant Prayag Das Ji as a Veda Patashala with three sections.

In 1992, it was permanently established at Dharmagiri and renamed Sri Venkateswara Veda Vijnana Peetham, marking its transformation into a full-fledged gurukula-style center.

Academic Structure

Today the institution runs 17 specialized branches across four major streams: 7 Vedic branches, 5 Agama disciplines, 4 Smartha divisions, and Divya Prabandham covering the 4000 Pasurams of the Alwars.

It currently has 374 students: 140 in Vedic courses, 177 in Prabandha and Agama courses, and 57 in Smartha courses, taught by 43 scholars.

Student Welfare

TTD provides hostel accommodation for 540 students, 24‑hour water supply, hot water, and hygienic living conditions.

Daily meals include milk, idli, dosa, upma in the morning; rice, dal, curries, sambar, rasam, curd at lunch; and milk and dinner at night.

Students also receive free clothing, books, soap, oil, and toothpaste, while health support is available through Ashwini Hospital, and in serious cases through SVIMS and BIRRD in Tirupati.

Future Security of Students

TTD has created special incentive deposits: ₹3 lakh for Vedic students and ₹1 lakh for students of other courses.

After course completion, students receive the principal plus interest, a merit certificate, and a 10‑gram silver dollar of Sri Venkateswara.

Daily Tradition and Research

Students follow a disciplined Vedic routine with Sandhyavandanam, Agnikaryam, study, recitation, teaching, physical activity, and night study.

The annual Sri Venkateswara Veda Shastra Agama Vidwat Sadas draws scholars from across India, and the latest session was held from March 8 to 13, 2026.

TTD also runs similar Vedic institutions at Keesaragutta, Nalgonda, Bhimavaram, Kotappakonda, and Vizianagaram, reinforcing its broader mission to preserve sacred learning for future generations.
