Tirumala, 06–08 May 2026 – Roads, circles, Mada streets, and key areas in Tirumala are getting new spiritual‑ names as part of a TTD‑board‑approved initiative. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board Meeting held on 06 May 2026 ratified the complete set of new names proposed by a special committee, which had earlier been tabled with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and approved by him. Henceforth pilgrims, locals, and traffic‑apps must use these new names for roads, circles, and Mada streets in Tirumala.

Mada streets (around the temple)

Previously known simply as East / West / North / South Mada streets, they are now aligned with the four Vedas:

  • East Mada Street → Rugveda Marga

  • South Mada Street → Yajurveda Marga

  • West Mada Street → Samaveda Marga

  • North Mada Street → Atharvanaveda Marga

These were chosen to match the Vaishnava‑Puranic idea that Tirumala is “Vedamayam Kshetram (field of the Vedas), and the Mada streets symbolise the four‑façaded‑movement‑around‑the deity.

Deity‑and‑philosopher‑linked precincts

Several square‑areas and open‑spaces are now named after devotees, acharyas, and divine‑figures:

  • Area near Bade Anjaneyaswamy Temple → Salaiva Narasimha Raya Pranganam (after Vijayanagara‑notable)

  • Open space facing Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple → Bhagavad Ramanujacharya Pranganam

  • Area from Moving Bridge to Sahasra Deepa Seva → Tirumalanambi Pranganam (ref. Azhagar / Ramanuja‑sishya line)

  • Back‑of‑temple area → AnantALvar Pranganam

These Pranganam‑names orient devotees with Vaishnava‑Acharya‑and‑Alvar‑lineage, reinforcing the Sri Vaishnava‑heritage of Tirumala.

Traffic‑circles (koodalies / traffic‑chowks)

Several circles are now renamed after bhaktas, poets, and emperors:

  • Le Pakshi Circle → Annamayya Koodali

  • Rambagiche Circle → Thondaman Chakravarthy Koodali

  • SMC Circle → Purandara Dasa Koodali

  • GNC Circle → Garudaadri Koodali

  • VQCC‑2 Circle → Tirumala Rayala Koodali

  • Nandakam Guest House Circle → Vakulamata Koodali

These changes make navigation more identity‑rich instead of merely landmark‑based (“near GNC”, “ATC Circle”).

Major road‑and‑path‑names

Key routes now carry sacred‑titles for better way‑finding and religious‑feel:

  • Outer Ring Road → Tiruveekatapatham

  • Inner Ring Road → Annamacharya Marga

  • From Nandakam Circle to Gogarbham Dam → NityaKalyana Marga

  • From Rambagiche to Pushkarini → Sri Krishnadevaraya Marga

  • From GNC to Le Pakshi footpath → NammALvar Marga

  • From Padmavati office to Rest House → Padmavati Marga

  • From GNC to Le Pakshi Circle (vehicle road) → Garudaadri Marga

  • From Bus Stand to Employees’ Canteen → Kulasekhara ALvar Marga

  • From Pindimar Circle to Outer Ring Road → Aakasaganga Marga

  • Srivari Mettu footpath → Srivari Marga

Together, these create a coherent, scripture‑and‑saint‑linked map of Tirumala.

Rationale and purpose behind the name‑change

  • Spiritual‑and‑Puranic‑identity

    • The committee of Sanskrit / Puranic‑experts and Annamacharya‑project officers recommended names from Vedas, Alvars, Bhakti‑Poets, and Vijayanagara‑Emperors, aiming to make every street “tell a story” of Vaishnava‑tradition.

    • This aligns with the idea that Tirumala is a “living scripture‑space”, not just a pilgrimage‑town.

  • Way‑finding and crowd‑management

    • Earlier, many junctions were known only by landmark‑nicknames (e.g., “GNC Road”, “ATC Circle”); the new names give official, search‑able, and consistent descriptors useful for apps, cabs, and devotee‑maps.

    • In the long‑run, this helps TTD‑guided traffic‑management and emergency‑route‑planning in crowded‑seasons.

  • Cultural‑continuity with past decisions

    • This follows earlier moves to rename guest‑houses and service‑blocks with Acharya‑and‑Vaishnava‑names; the Board now extends the logic to all major roads, circles, and Pranganams.

What devotees should note when planning yatra

  • Use new names on maps‑and‑cabs

    • From now on, devotees and cab‑drivers should phrase destinations as “Rugveda Marga”, “Samaveda Marga”, “Srivari Marga”, etc., instead of just “East Mada” or “GNC Road”.

    • Pedestrian‑and‑auto‑drivers will gradually adapt; pilgrims should carry a printed‑list of new‑names for quick reference, especially on early‑nights with heavy‑crowd.

  • Relation to other TTD‑board‑projects

    • The same Board meeting also approved extra‑toilets (₹4.55 crore) in Srivari‑queue‑linesAlipiri yajashala‑modernisation (₹4.75 crore), and upgrading of Varahaswamy Rest House‑1 (₹3.61 crore), which will reshape how devotees move through these newly‑named‑streets.

Key takeaway bullets (what to do / remember)

  • TTD has re‑named Tirumala’s Mada streets, circles, roads, and key precincts with spiritual‑names from Vedas, Alvars, Bhaktas, and emperors; these names are now official and must be used in navigation and maps.

  • Mada streets are renamed as Rugveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda, and Atharvanaveda Marga; important circles and paths now bear names like Annamayya, Thondaman, Purandara Dasa, Garudaadri, NammALvar, Padmavati, Kulasekhara ALvar, and Srivari Marga.

  • These changes aim to enhance spiritual‑identity, way‑finding, and traffic‑management in Tirumala; devotees should update their mental‑and‑digital‑maps before future visits.

  • Board‑projects like new‑toilets in queue‑line and Alipiri‑yajashala‑upgrades will soon integrate with these newly‑named‑routes, so pilgrims may experience smoother movement through the renamed‑areas.
