Tirumala, 19 April 2026 – The Tirupati district police conducted an intensified ‘naka bandi’ (security‑checkpoint) drive in Tirumala as part of enhanced security arrangements for devotees during the April‑peak season. The operation was carried out at Galigopuram and the 7th‑Mile area under the instructions of Tirupati District SP L. Subbarayudu and TTD CV&SO Muralikrishna, supervised by the Tirumala DSP, tying into the State government’s “Operation Vajrapahaar” to maintain order and safety in the hill shrine town.
Scope and findings of the drive

A total of 58 personnel, divided into two teams, inspected 63 shops along the main commercial stretch, checking licenses, registration details, and staff‑ID documents.

Six shops were issued notices for not having CCTV cameras installed, in line with TTD‑ and police‑directives that mandate surveillance coverage in all business premises within the temple‑area.
Detentions, vehicle seizures and drug‑control focus

Police detained four persons found without valid identity proof during the checks and seized two vehicles linked to them, pending verification of documentation and purpose of stay in Tirumala.

Officials issued stern warnings against possession and sale of prohibited substances such as ganja (marijuana), alcohol, cigarettes, and other tobacco products, reinforcing the temple‑zone as a drug‑free and alcohol‑free environment for pilgrims.

Shopkeepers were instructed to strictly comply with all regulations, including maintaining proper CCTV coverage, staff‑records, and avoiding business with unidentified persons.

Police used the drive to create awareness about emergency helplines such as 112 (India‑wide emergency number) and 1972 (Tirumala police / HT‑11 number), urging the public to report suspicious activity or drug‑related crimes. The message emphasises that community vigilance and cooperation are key to keeping Tirumala secure and drug‑free for lakhs of yearly devotees.
