Tirupati, August 17, 2026: The kainkarya traditions prescribed by Sri Bhagavad Ramanujacharya continue to be followed systematically at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala, said Tirumala Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji.
The three-day national conference on “Spiritual Contributions of Sri Vaishnava Acharyas” commenced grandly at Annamacharya Kala Mandiram, Tirupati, on Monday under the aegis of the TTD Alwar Divya Prabandha Project. The conference will continue until August 19.
Ramanujacharya’s Role in Tirumala Temple Traditions
Addressing devotees, Tirumala Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji said the system of daily kainkaryams established by Sri Ramanujacharya continues not only at the Tirumala temple but also at Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple and other Divya Desams.
He said Ramanujacharya strengthened the arrangements required for conducting Srivari Brahmotsavams on a grand scale and helped establish the four Mada streets in Tirumala.
The Jeeyar Swamiji described Sri Ramanujacharya as a great Acharya who enabled everyone, irrespective of caste or religious differences, to participate in the service of the Lord.
Sri Ramanujacharya Systematised Daily Kainkaryams
Tirumala Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji said Sri Ramanujacharya was regarded as an incarnation of Adisesha and played a significant role in systematising the daily kainkaryams of Lord Venkateswara.
He said Ramanujacharya introduced the Friday Abhishekam, established the Shankha and Chakra, and developed a system under which Alwar Pasurams are incorporated into various services performed at Tirumala.
He also highlighted the services of Tirumala Nambi, the maternal uncle of Sri Ramanujacharya, and Anantalwar, who rendered distinguished service through flower kainkaryam.
Scholars Highlight Contributions of Sri Vaishnava Acharyas
Former Special Officer of the Alwar Project Dr. Madabhushi Varadarajan said Acharya Pundarikaksha, belonging to the lineage of Sri Nathamuni, played a prominent role in systematising the recitation of the Nalayira Divya Prabandham in Vaishnava Divya Desams.
He said the tradition established by Pundarikaksha continues to this day and has served as an important foundation for preserving the Sri Vaishnava tradition.
He also explained that Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja and Sri Govinda Bhattar (Embar) studied together at the Gurukulam in Tirupputkuzhi. Later, Ramanuja spent one year listening to Sri Ramayana discourses from Tirumala Nambi at Alipiri.
Embar and Mudaliandan’s Services
Dr. Varadarajan said Embar remained a close associate of Sri Ramanujacharya and played an important role in propagating Visishtadvaita philosophy.
He said Sri Dasarathi (Mudaliandan) efficiently handled the administration of Srirangam Temple and rendered distinguished service towards preserving the Sri Vaishnava tradition.
Nathamuni and Pundarikaksha’s Spiritual Contributions
Hyderabad-based Sri Parakalan Swami delivered a discourse on “Spiritual Contributions of Sri Nathamuni and Pundarikaksha.”
He said Sri Nathamuni Maharshi was one of the prominent Acharyas who laid strong foundations for the Sri Vaishnava tradition.
He explained that Nathamuni collected the 4,000 Pasurams of the Alwars and compiled them as the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, making a significant contribution to devotional literature.
He described Pundarikaksha, one of Nathamuni’s prominent disciples, as an ideal of devotion to the Guru, humility and dedication to Kainkaryam.
Scholars Present Research Papers
Discourses on Acharyas’ Spiritual Services
From 2.30 PM to 5.30 PM, Sri Raghavan Swami, Tiruvallikeni Sri Srinivasan Swami, Sri Rangarajan of Chennai and Sri Madhavan Swami delivered discourses on the spiritual contributions of Sri Vaishnava Acharyas, Srivari Kainkarya traditions, Visishtadvaita philosophy and the significance of Alwar Pasurams.
Several scholars also presented research papers during the conference.
The programme was attended by Alwar Divya Prabandha Project Special Officer Sri Tirumala Alwar, scholars, researchers and a large number of devotees and members of the public.
