Summer Holidays Crowd IN TIRUMALA Increased, TTD Makes Extensive Arrangements for Devotees

Tirumala, 21 May 2026 – In view of the overwhelming summer‑vacation rush, the number of devotees arriving at Tirumala for darshan of Sri Venkateswara Swamy is increasing day by day. A sea of humanity has been witnessed in the hill shrine over the last five days, and TTD expects similar‑heavy‑crowd‑bands to continue for the next few weeks.

To manage this unprecedented rush, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has put in place extensive convenience‑and‑welfare‑measures, including special sheds, synthetic‑cool‑paint on Mada streets, temporary‑toilets, continuous‑water‑and‑Annaprasad‑distribution, 24×7‑tonsure‑counters, mobile‑first‑aid, and amplified‑information‑systems.

Crowd‑situation and recent‑peak‑days

  • Last‑five‑day‑rush overview

    • In the last five days alone, about 4,32,213 devotees had darshan of Lord Venkateswara, with 90,000+ devotees on both 16 May and 17 May.

    • Tonsures also surged, with over 43,000 devotees offering hair on 18, 19, and 20 May, reflecting a peak‑sankalpa‑and‑vow‑day‑cluster during this summer‑band.

  • Daily‑rush‑statistics (16–20 May 2026)

    • 16 May – 90,011 darshan, 39,083 tonsures, 4,20,085 Annaprasadams

    • 17 May – 91,020 darshan, 35,193 tonsures, 3,81,210 Annaprasadams

    • 18 May – 80,455 darshan, 43,309 tonsures, 3,42,670 Annaprasadams

    • 19 May – 84,412 darshan, 43,032 tonsures, 4,03,810 Annaprasadams

    • 20 May – 86,315 darshan, 44,107 tonsures, 3,99,380 Annaprasadams
In total, nearly 19 lakh devotees were served Annaprasadams, tea, coffee, milk, and buttermilk at various locations in Tirumala over these five days.

TTD’s on‑ground‑facilities and crowd‑management

  • Special‑sheds and cool‑Mada‑streets

    • TTD has erected special sheds around the Srivari Temple, Laddu‑counters, and high‑footfall‑zones to provide shade and reduce exposure to direct‑sun‑heat.

    • Synthetic‑enamel‑cool‑paint has been applied on the four Mada streets to lower ground‑radiation‑heat and keep soles‑cooler under summer‑footwear.

  • Temporary‑toilets and queue‑line‑upgrades

    • Temporary‑toilets have been arranged all along the queue‑lines from Batagangamma Temple Circle to the Outer Ring Road, reducing pressure on fixed‑toilet‑blocks and improving sanitation‑flow.

    • The Outer Ring Road has also been used as a mobile‑first‑aid‑belt, with a mobile first‑aid center kept ready along the serpentine‑queue‑zones.

  • Continuous‑water‑and‑Annaprasad‑supply

    • Hundreds of Srivari Sevaks are working in round‑the‑clock‑shifts, continuously distributing drinking water and Annaprasadams to devotees waiting in outside‑serpentine‑queue‑lines.

    • Under the supervision of the TTD Health Departmentmobile water drums are deployed in crowded areas so that Srivari Sevaks can reach devotees directly in the line rather than expecting them to move to central‑tanks.

Tonsure, lockers, and accommodation‑load

  • Tonsure‑counters‑expansion

    • Along with the main Kalyanakatta11 mini‑Kalyanakattas are functioning 24×7 to handle the massive ‑tonsure‑band, especially during the recent‑days‑with‑over‑40,000‑hair‑offerings.

    • The 24×7‑mode helps devotees avoid concentrating in a single‑window, reducing local‑congestion‑and‑wait‑time at the main‑tonsure‑point.

  • Accommodation‑and‑locker‑capacity‑under‑pressure

    • Since Tirumala’s accommodation facilities are limited, TTD can allot rooms only to about 60,000 devotees at any point, and this quota is now persistently full with the current‑rush‑band.

    • 9,000 lockers are spread across PAC‑1, PAC‑2, PAC‑3, Padmanabha‑Nilayam (PAC), and PAC‑5, and all these lockers are also fully occupied, indicating that very few devotees are dropping off luggage and most are carrying it through the queue‑complex.

Information and coordination systems

  • Multi‑language‑darshan‑updates

    • To keep long‑waiting‑devotees informed, darshan‑updates are being announced in 5 languages through radio‑and‑public‑broadcasting systems along the queue‑lines and major sheds.

    • This helps non‑Telugu‑and‑non‑Hindi‑speaking pilgrims (Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi‑etc.) understand approximate‑waiting‑time, bottlenecks, and safety‑instructions without relying on third‑party‑interpreters.

  • Round‑the‑clock‑monitoring

    • Officials and staff from various departments are continuously monitoring the darshan‑queue‑lines, Narayanagiri‑sheds, and compartments in the Vaikuntham Queue Complex, ensuring that no spot develops extreme‑pressure, hygiene‑risk, or medical‑neglect.

    • The combined‑effort of crowd‑controllers, medics, Sevaks, and maintenance‑teams is tuned to keep shade, cool‑atmosphere, water, Annaprasadams, cleanliness, accommodation, tonsure‑services, and laddus flowing without major‑interruptions despite the 90,000‑plus‑pilgrim‑days.

Key takeaway bullets (what to do / remember)

  • A sea of humanity and 90,000+‑pilgrim‑days mark an unprecedented‑summer‑rush in Tirumala over 16–20 May 2026, with 4,32,213 total darshans and >43,000 tonsures in just 3 days.

  • To handle this load, TTD has deployed special‑sheds, cool‑paint‑on‑Mada‑streets, temporary‑toilets, 24×7‑tonsure‑counters, mobile‑water‑drums, continuous‑Annaprasad‑distribution by Srivari Sevaks, and multi‑language‑broadcasting‑updates.

  • Accommodation is capped at ~60,000 devotees and lockers at 9,000, so pilgrims should not expect to get rooms or lockers easily on recent‑and‑coming‑rush‑days unless they book very early.

  • Devotees planning travel in the coming weeks should treat Tirumala as a “heavy‑rush‑and‑24‑hour‑possibility” zone, prepare for long‑queues, and prioritize SSD‑tokens, 300‑SE, or Divya‑Darshan where possible.
