72nd National Drama Festival Begins at Mahathi Kalakshetram in Tirupati

Tirupati, August 3, 2026: The 72nd National Drama Festival of Sri Venkateswara Natya Kalaparishat commenced on a grand note at Mahathi Kalakshetram in Tirupati on Monday, bringing together artists, cultural enthusiasts and theatre lovers.

The revival of the prestigious drama festival after a gap of six years has received support from TTD, which extended financial assistance of ₹25 lakh.

TTD Encouraging Indian Arts and Culture

Addressing the inaugural programme as chief guest, Tirupati MLA Sri Arani Srinivasulu said TTD has been consistently encouraging and preserving Indian arts and cultural traditions.

He appreciated TTD for extending ₹25 lakh towards the festival, stating that the financial assistance played an important role in reviving the event after six years.

He expressed hope that TTD would continue to support artists and cultural programmes in the future.

Call to Revive Mythological and Social Dramas

AP Greening and Beautification Corporation Chairperson Smt. Sugunamma appealed to art and theatre lovers to participate in large numbers during the 10-day National Drama Festival.

She also suggested reviving regular performances of mythological and social dramas in Tirupati, helping strengthen the city's cultural environment and providing more opportunities to theatre artists.

“Art Flourishes Where Artists Are Respected”

TTD Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad Secretary Dr. Medasani Mohan observed that art and culture flourish in a society that respects, values and encourages artists.

TTD Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. T. Ravi highlighted various initiatives being undertaken by TTD to promote music, drama, traditional arts and cultural heritage through its projects and educational and cultural institutions.

Several dignitaries, artists, cultural enthusiasts and members of the public participated in the inaugural ceremony.
