Tirumala, September 8, 2026: The traditional Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed ceremonially at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala on Tuesday, ahead of the annual Srivari Brahmotsavams from September 15 to 23.
TTD Chairman Sri B.R. Naidu, TTD Additional EO Sri Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, temple priests, officials and staff participated in the sacred temple purification ritual.
All Arrangements Completed for Brahmotsavams
Speaking to the media, TTD Additional EO Sri Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary said that all necessary arrangements for the grand annual Brahmotsavams have been completed.
He explained that Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is traditionally performed on the Tuesday preceding major festivals such as Brahmotsavams, Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam and Vaikuntha Ekadashi, in accordance with the Agama traditions.
Extensive Purification of Srivari Temple
As part of the ritual, the entire temple premises were purified, beginning from Ananda Nilayam up to the Bangaru Vakili.
The purification covered:
- Main temple interiors
- Sub-shrines inside the temple
- Prasadam Potu
- Temple premises
- Walls and ceilings
- Various articles used for worship
The ritual was conducted by the temple priests according to Agama procedures between 6 AM and 10 AM.
Moolavirat Kept Covered During Purification
During the purification process, the Moolavirat of Lord Venkateswara was completely covered with a sacred cloth.
After the cleaning was completed, a specially prepared fragrant and sacred water was sprinkled throughout the temple.
The holy water was prepared by mixing traditional fragrant substances including:
Namam powder, Sri Churnam, Kasturi turmeric, betel leaves, edible camphor, sandalwood powder, kumkum and Kichiligadda, among other ingredients.
Following the purification, the cloth covering the Moolavirat was removed. The priests then performed special puja and Naivedyam according to the prescribed rituals.
After completion of these rituals, devotees were allowed to have Srivari Darshan.
Officials Participate in Temple Purification
Several TTD Board members, CVSO Sri Muralikrishna, Deputy EO Sri Bhaskar and other officials participated in the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam.
The ritual marks an important traditional purification ceremony before the commencement of the grand annual Brahmotsavams and reflects the continued observance of Agama traditions at the Tirumala temple.
