Tirumala, September 8, 2026: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has clarified that the damage to a Sri Krishna idol on the Maha Gopuram of the Srivari Temple was identified by TTD staff in advance and that there was no negligence in the incident.
The clarification comes amid discussions and reports concerning the condition of the idol on the temple gopuram.
Hundreds of Sculptures on the Srivari Temple Gopuram
The TTD stated that the Maha Gopuram of the Srivari Temple features hundreds of sculptures and idols. Since these structures are exposed to natural elements such as sunlight and rain for long periods, some sculptures may require periodic repairs or restoration.
As part of its regular maintenance, TTD examines the condition of the sculptures while undertaking annual painting and repair works on the temple gopuram ahead of the Srivari Brahmotsavams.
Depending on their condition, necessary repairs are carried out or new idols are installed in place of those that require replacement.
Sri Krishna Idol Damage Identified During Maintenance
As part of the ongoing painting and repair works on the gopuram, TTD staff identified that the Sri Krishna idol required repairs.
Officials concerned were immediately informed and necessary action was initiated, the TTD said.
The temple administration emphasized that the issue was detected during its regular inspection and maintenance process.

TTD has appealed to people not to spread information on social media without first verifying the facts.
The temple administration said that making deliberate or misleading claims about such incidents without knowing the actual facts is inappropriate.
