Tirupati, July 18, 2026: A nine-year-old male horse, recently donated to the Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Shala (SV Goshala) of TTD, passed away on Saturday morning despite continuous veterinary treatment and special medical care.
According to SV Goshala Director Dr. A.V.N. Sivakumar, a post-mortem examination has been conducted, and tissue samples have been sent to a laboratory to determine the exact cause of death.
Horse Was Kept Under Quarantine
The horse arrived at the Goshala on July 13 and was immediately placed under quarantine as a precautionary measure.
Blood and dung samples were sent to the State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Tirupati, where preliminary reports indicated that the animal was suffering from chronic liver and kidney ailments.
From the time of arrival, the horse displayed symptoms including:
- Poor food and water intake
- Frequent sitting and lying down
- Rolling repeatedly
- Difficulty in standing
Veterinary doctors closely monitored the horse and administered treatment based on expert medical advice.
Post-Mortem Findings
Despite sustained treatment, the horse died at 10:00 AM on July 18.
A team of veterinary specialists from Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University conducted the post-mortem examination.
Preliminary findings suggested the horse had been suffering from chronic liver, heart, and kidney diseases. Officials stated that the final laboratory report will determine the exact cause of death.
The donor, Sri Vadivelu Mugandhan from Madurai, was present at the Goshala when the horse passed away.
Following the post-mortem, the horse was buried scientifically in accordance with prescribed veterinary procedures, TTD officials said.
